What is Pomegranate?

Pomegranate is the fruit of a perennial plant (pomegranate tree or shrub) that grows in a subtropical climate in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Since ancient times, it has been used by different peoples not only for consumption but as a remedy.

Pomegranate is a powerful antioxidant and low-calorie remedy. Its peel contains twice as many antioxidants, phenols and tannins as its aril. That is why it is often used to make medicinal decoctions. However, one should not consume too much of it since the peel contains toxic alkaloids.
